JOB INTERVIEW TIPS
“present a proposition. offer the twofer.”
The Lesson
Interviews aren't Q&A. They're sales presentations. (1) Preparation beats talent. (2) Employers light up when you show learning commitment. (3) NEVER badmouth past employers. They'll assume you'll do the same to them. (4) Present what's in it for THEM, not what you want. (5) The twofer: "I have the qualifications, BUT I also bring this other skill you need." Now you're not competing with 100 similar candidates. (6) Ask a question that shows strategic insight about their business. Good questions are more impressive than good answers.
Real-World Example
Two candidates for a product role. Candidate A answers questions well. Candidate B says: "I noticed you're expanding into enterprise but your onboarding is still self-serve. I've built enterprise onboarding at two companies. That's my twofer." Then asks: "How are you planning to handle the support load when enterprise customers expect white-glove service?" Candidate B gets the offer. They sold a proposition, not a resume.
