Persuasion

HOW HYPNOTISTS READ BODIES

watch what you're doing. adjust to what they show.

The Lesson

The most important part of hypnosis (and persuasion) is observation. Watch the subject while you're doing things to them. Are their eyes closing (relaxed)? Breathing faster (stressed)? Muscle tone changing? The sleepy-eyed look means 'more of that.' Tension means 'less.' You can practice on pets. Do different things and watch their micro-expressions. The lesson: you've got to watch what you're doing and how it affects your subject. Real-time feedback, real-time adjustment.

Real-World Example

A founder pitching investors watches for micro-responses. Mention growth numbers: investor leans forward, eyes engaged (more of that). Mention technical architecture: eyes glaze, posture shifts (less of that). Market opportunity: nodding, note-taking (more). Competitive landscape: checking phone (abort). The pitch isn't a script. It's a conversation guided by body reading. Observe, adjust, repeat.
