SPOTTING SIMULATION SIGNS
“bugs, slowdowns, incompatible memories. software signs.”
The Lesson
If we lived in a software simulation, what would we expect to see? (1) Bugs. Unexplainable features like magnetism that can't be blocked by any material. There's no physical explanation for why the densest material can't even slightly reduce magnetic attraction. Looks like a line of code. (2) Slowdowns. Pandemics forcing everyone to stay home, reducing simulation complexity. (3) Incompatible memories. Smart people looking at the same facts and reaching completely different conclusions. Easier to give different memories than make all stories compatible. (4) Unexplainable causeless forces. Every simulation sign has a conventional explanation, but the simulation explanation is often simpler.
Real-World Example
A founder debates whether to pivot based on conflicting market data. Advisor A sees clear opportunity, Advisor B sees certain failure. Same data, completely different reads. Simulation lens: they have different memory assignments, so compatibility isn't required. Practical lens: accept that smart people will always see different realities. Your job isn't to find the 'true' reality. It's to pick a useful filter and act on it.
