TURNING A BAD DAY TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
“if you're already feeling bad, do the hard things. you've got nothing to lose.”
The Lesson
When you're having a bad day, don't waste it. Use it for tasks that would make you feel bad anyway: firing someone, delivering bad news, having a hard conversation. You can't feel much worse. The other hack: when life seems pointless, ramp up your fear. Do something you'd never do if you thought your life was worth protecting. Ask someone out, go to a party where you know nobody, give a speech. Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose. Either you'll immediately feel better (and don't have to do the scary thing), or you'll do it and probably win.
Real-World Example
A founder is having a terrible week. Funding fell through, a key hire quit. They've been avoiding a hard conversation with their co-founder about equity. Bad day logic: 'I already feel terrible. Having this conversation can't make it worse. Today's the day.' They have the conversation. It goes better than expected. The bad day became permission to do what needed doing.
