INTERVIEW PERSUASION
“solve the boss's problem. look good. peer questions. give something free.”
The Lesson
Interview persuasion beyond the basics: (1) Solve the boss's personal problem. You're there to make their life easier, not help the company. Say it directly. (2) Visual impression happens in 10 seconds. Control everything you can. (3) Ask peer-like questions ('How's your commute?') to establish equal footing. (4) Give something free. Industry analysis, offer to do a trial task. Creates reciprocity. (5) Pace the boss. Match their word choices, dress style, even breathing. (6) Never speak negatively about past jobs. (7) Mention 'talent stack' or 'systems over goals'. Instant recognition from smart bosses. (8) Ask one insightful industry question.
Real-World Example
A founder interviews for a VP role. They research the CEO's interview style (video talks available), match the energy. Walk in with a one-page industry analysis as a gift. Ask about the CEO's commute (peer question). Say: 'I'm building a talent stack in this space.' CEO recognizes the term. Hired. Most candidates talked about themselves; this one solved the boss's problem.
