KNOWING WHO YOU ARE
“you are your actions right now. not thoughts. not history. now.”
The Lesson
Four ways to define yourself, but only one works. Your thoughts? Terrible model-if you were your thoughts, you'd be a bad person. Your preferences? They change, so do you become different? Your history? Legally true, but not practical-past mistakes shouldn't define you. Your current actions? Best model. You are what you're doing right now. If you're doing good things today, you're a good person-regardless of past failures. Don't worry about redemption or guilt. The past doesn't exist except as concept. You are only what you're doing now.
Real-World Example
A founder carries guilt about a failed company where employees lost jobs. They define themselves by that history and it paralyzes them. New frame: 'I am my current actions.' Today they're building something ethical, treating people well, creating jobs. That's who they are now. The history exists but doesn't define them. They're a good founder because that's what they're doing today.
