GET OUT REFRAME
“past and future are imaginary. say 'GET OUT' and join the real world.”
The Lesson
You have two worlds: the imaginary (past and future) where all negative rumination lives, and the real world of actual experiences. When stuck in anxious or sad thoughts about past/future, use this reframe: Say 'GET OUT'-those exact words, aloud or in your head. Immediately stand up. Touch something, smell something, eat something, do something. Orient toward real perceptions and present-moment action. If you can't move (hospital bed), at least switch to ideas, concepts, or positive fantasies-anything but past/future rumination. Tested on hundreds with amazing success.
Real-World Example
A founder spirals about a deal that fell through (past) and worst-case scenarios (future). They catch themselves: 'GET OUT.' They stand up, walk outside, feel the cold air, pet their dog. The rumination dissolves. It was imaginary-the past is gone, the future doesn't exist. Only this moment is real. They return to work present and productive.
