CURING LONELINESS

be the organizer. organizers never get lonely. they control the invitations.

The Lesson

Three strategies for loneliness, ranked. (3rd) Being nice and hoping to attract people-rarely works; lots of nice lonely people. (2nd) Join group activities-sports, hobbies, volunteering, education. Take Dale Carnegie courses to get comfortable with strangers. (1st) Be the organizer of events, trips, parties. Organizers are always invited because people want to stay on their list. Combine all three for maximum effect. Shortcut: befriend one super-connector who will put you on their invitation lists. The key insight: don't wait to be included-be the one who includes others.

Real-World Example

A founder moves to a new city and feels isolated. Being nice at coffee shops yields nothing. They join a running club (better-now they see the same people weekly). Then they start organizing monthly dinners for founders. Within six months, they know everyone. They're never lonely because they control the social calendar. People reach out to stay on the invite list.
